NEWSLETTER September 2017

Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter

About the Vacancy
We received one application in response to our advertisement for a new Priest-in-Charge.  Arrangements are being made for the applicant to come here early in November to meet members of our congregations and of the two Vestries.  More details will be made available in due course. Meanwhile, it is timely to repeat our sincere appreciation and thanks to those who are ensuring the continuity of our worship during this inter-regnum, particularly to Rev Valerie Saunders and Rev Barbara Chandler.

Events at St James’
The following dates have now been confirmed for evening events in St James’ Church, all starting at 7pm –
Friday 22nd September: “Turadh” – local musicians Emma Donald (fiddle) and Isbel Pendlebury (clarsach) – will present an evening of their own “neo-trad” compositions.
Friday 20th October : Danielle Thomas (mezzo soprano) will give a recital with a range of songs from operatic to musical favourites.
Friday 27th October : Arthur Milnes of the Inverness Astronomy Society will give an exciting talk on the universe and our place in it.
Friday 10th November: A recital of Baroque music will be given by Philip Sawyer (harpsichord) and Emma Donald (violin).
These events will be non-ticketed, but donations towards Church funds will be much appreciated. (Please note that Turadh will be performing a further concert at the Heights Hall in early October, so you will have an opportunity to hear them twice!)
Further musical events at St James’ Church planned for 2018 include a flute recital (late February or early March) and a concert by the string quartet newly formed by Emma Donald (late May).
Harvest Festival
The 10.30 service at St James’ on Sunday 1st October will be our Harvest Festival, followed by a Harvest Lunch in the Hall. As usual, both fresh produce and Foodbank donations will be required for the display. Food will also be required for the Harvest Lunch (buffet). Please contact Mary Machin or Pat Holder to make your offers and for further details. Current priority requirements for the Highland Foodbank are – breakfast cereal; tinned tomatoes; corned beef; sugar; cartons of long-life juice; and long grain rice.
Regional Synod
The next meeting of the Regional Synod for our area (St Boniface and St Gilbert) will take place on Saturday 7th October at St James’ Church. All members of the congregation are welcome to attend. The meeting will begin with Eucharist at 10.30am in the Church, followed by tea/coffee and the Synod business in the Hall. The formal business of the meeting is expected to be completed before lunch. It will be followed by an interactive training session ‘Mission Shaped Initiative’, led by Rev Sarah Murray of the Diocesan Mission and Ministry Board, in which it is hoped all will participate. This will finish by 3.30pm.
Annual General Meeting
A reminder that this will take place on the morning of Saturday 9th December.
